How to control Philips Hue bulbs and LivingColors lights with LivingColors remotes

My home setup is as follows:

  • 2 LivingColors (2nd gen.) in my bedroom
  • 3 Hue bulbs in my office
  • Hue bridge to control any of the lights above
  • 1 Remote in the bedroom which controls only the two LivingColors
  • 1 Remote in the office which controls only the Hue bulbs

Just to clarify and summarize several forum posts I read, follow these steps for working setup like mine above:

  1. Reset all the remotes you want to use (Use something with a small tip to push the reset button behind the battery cover until the remote beeps
  2. Push the button on the Hue bridge
  3. Hold the first remote near the bridge, press and hold the “Preset 1” plus the “On” button together until the remote has paired with the bridge
  4. Hold the remote near the first light you want to add, press and hold the “On” button until the remote has paired with the light
  5. Repeat step 4 for every light/bulb you want to add to your system
  6. Push the button on the Hue bridge
  7. Hold the first remote near the bridge again, press and hold the “On” button, which finishes the pairing process
  8. Hold the second remote near the first one, press and hold the “On” button on both remotes simultaneously, until the first remote is copied to the second one
  9. Now with each remote go to every light/bulb you do NOT want to control it with, press and hold th “Off” button until the light/bulb is unpaired
  10. Now you have two remotes to control a separte group of lights/bulbs

Note that pairing a LivingColors remote with the bridge does factory reset the bridge. All the lights are still controllable via the iOS/Andoid app and the Hue portal, but you have to push the bridge button again to be able to use those.
